Background Memo
Approve Minutes From February 9, 2011 Meeting
Staff recommends approval of the minutes from the February 9, 2011 Parks
Commission meeting.
II. Hanifl Fields Athletic Park And Heritage Ponds Playground Proposals
At the February 9, 2011 meeting, the Parks Commission heard presentations
from five vendors with proposals for playground equipment to be installed at
Hanifl Fields Athletic Park and Heritage Ponds Park. After holding a Heritage
Ponds neighborhood meeting, the Parks Commission selected St. Croix
Recreation and Flagship recreation to continue to work with. Commissioners
Rachel Berger, Tom Windisch and Jim Taylor volunteered to meet with each of
the vendors and give additional feedback on the playground proposals.
The total budget for the Heritage Ponds Park is $60,000. Hugo Public Works will
do the site preparation work (concrete perimeter, irrigation, etc) and material
costs are approximately $10,000. The playground equipment budget is $50,000.
Hanifl Fields Athletic Park playground budget is $70,000. At both parks, the
proposals should include installation of the play equipment and supply of the fiber
base material.
The presenters requested 30 minutes to present their playground proposals,
including time for questions. Staff recommends that the Parks Commission
discuss the proposals and select a final design. Staff recommends that the
Parks Commission also discuss color schemes. If additional discussion is
necessary, Commissioners could volunteer to finalize the color scheme at a later
time with the vendor.
III. Fable Hills Park Dedicatio
Pratt Development is proposing 5 single family lots on 2.11 acres and Outlot A on
32.27 acres to be known as "Fable Hills Third Addition". They are proposing to
pay park dedication as cash -in -lieu of land in the amount of $12,000. Len Pratt
and Dave Hempel of Pratt Development may be in attendance.
-2-
Parks Commission
March 9, 2011
