III. Update on Irish Avenue Park Committee <br />Parks Planner, Shayla Syverson updated on the Irish Avenue Park Planning Committee <br />which held its first meeting on Wednesday October 5, 2011. Dave Percival and Gary <br />Wilson shared their vision for a cross country course at Irish Avenue Park and the option <br />of holding the University of Minnesota's Griak Invitational there as well. It can also host <br />High School and other local meets too. Jim Taylor reminded of the original vision shared <br />by the Parks commission members on Irish Avenue Park that included ball fields and <br />other facilities that would ensure a viable recreation department for Hugo's future. Next <br />meeting will be on November 2"d, 2011. <br />Commission members discussed the need to review the Parks Plan on Irish Avenue at <br />the next sub committee meeting to encompass how the residentslcommunity needs <br />would be met with the vision of cross county utilizing the property. <br />IV. Update on Lions Park Master Plannin <br />Parks Planner, Shayla Syverson gave an update on the public workshop that was held <br />Tuesday, September 27, 2011 on the Lions Park master planning. Shareholders, Lions <br />Club representatives, Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf representatives, City Council <br />Members and residents were present for this open discussion. <br />Feedback included what they like about the park as it is now and how they envision the <br />park being used in the future. The workshop participants wanted to continue to provide <br />a place for large community gatherings at Lions Park and also that there should be a <br />large park shelter that would be multi-purpose. Other park features discussed included <br />an ice arena, gazebo, walking paths, and a possible band shell. <br />Next public workshop will be held Tuesday, October 18, 2011. <br />Parks Commission members discussed having a large open space for events. The <br />arrangement of the current structures and park features may not be the best layout in <br />the future. Also, ball fields may not be needed in the future and may be converted to <br />more open space. <br />V. City Wide Bus Tour <br />Parks Planner, Shayla Syverson informed that the 6th Annual City Wide Bus Tour will be <br />on Saturday, October 15, 2011. The tour will include various neighborhoods, City <br />projects and future opportunities within the City limits. <br />-2— <br />Parks Commission <br />October 12, 2011 <br />
