Agenda Number. <br />CITY OF HUGO <br />PARKS COMMISSION REPORT <br />TO: City of Hugo Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission <br />FROM: Shayla Syverson, Parks Planner <br />SUBJECT: DNR Community Forest Grant Application <br />DATE: February 3, 2012 for the meeting of February 8, 2011 <br />1. BACKGROUND: <br />Staff is recommending approval of an application for $5,000 in funding through the DNR <br />Community Forest Grant Program to replace trees in Arbre Park. This application will be <br />on the City Council consent agenda for February 6, 2012. Staff will provide an update on <br />their direction at the Parks Commission meeting of February 8, 2012. This grant <br />application is due on February 17, 2012. <br />2. ARBRE PARK TREE PROJECT: <br />Several mature trees in Arbre Park needed to be replaced. The City of Hugo has removed <br />the dead trees and plans to work with an Eagle Scout candidate to re -plant the trees in the <br />summer of 2012. <br />Eagle Scout Assistance: <br />At the meeting of September 14, 2011, the Parks Commission heard a presentation by <br />Michael Marier proposing to plant tress in Heritage Ponds Park last fall. Due to time <br />restraints, Marier was unable to help with the planting of trees in Heritage Ponds Park <br />and staff is working with him to plant trees in Arbre Park. Marier is proposing to request <br />donations from residents adjacent to the park, the American Legion and the Home <br />Owners Association. Marier is also proposing to recruit scout volunteers to help staff in <br />planting trees and clean up. Marier will be making a presentation to the Parks <br />Commission requesting approval of his plan. <br />DNR Community Forest Grant: <br />The DNR Community Forest Grant provides funding for "diversifying community trees". <br />A local match is not required.
