An Additional Indoor Ice Arena is Needed.
Based on comparisons to other local communities and the high demand and interest in the
sport of hockey and related programs, the study area has a shortage of at least one ice arena.
Participation in all indoor ice sports and programs in the region is increasing; especially the
recent surge in women's hockey. Lack of existing ice space and time is limiting existing
programs and prohibiting new programs. A minimum of one ice arena is needed with
appropriate seating for tournament play.
An Aquatic Facility is Needed
Based on national standards and comparisons to other local communities, the study area is
lacking an aquatic facility for public and school programs. Existing programs are extremely
limited due to lack of space and time for practice. New public programs are not possible
without an aquatic facility. At least one aquatic facility is needed within the district currently
with the minimum requirements of two full-size swimming pools and a diving area.
A Sport Toumament Facility is Needed
There is no facility capable of hosting sports tournaments (primarily soccer, softball, baseball).
Tournaments play an important part in our sports culture and require a number of fields at one
location. Currently, no park in the study area has this capability. A minimum of five lighted
and irrigated fields is needed for a local tournament and it is desirable to have eight to twelve
fields for regional, state and national tournaments. Tournament or "Sports Complex" parks
need a minimum of 40 acres of and it is desirable to have 60 - 80 acres. The only
opportunities to acquire and build a facility of that size are north of 120` St. within the
communities that are not fully developed. Feasibility assessment and plans for a major
recreation facility (perhaps incorporating the community gyms) should be initiated in this
northern portion of the district.
INGRAHAM
ASSOCIATES
