Background Memo
Approve Minutes From August 8, 2012 Meeting
Staff recommends approval of the minutes from the August 8, 2012 Parks
Commission meeting.
II. Agenda Review
In the summer of 2011, the Parks Commission began gathering public input to
put together a master plan for Lions Park. At the Parks Commission meeting of
September 26, 2012, Brauer and Associates will make a presentation of a
Preliminary Master Plan and gather feedback from stakeholders, public and the
Parks Commission. Following the discussion on the Lions Park Master Plan, the
Parks Commission will be asked to provide feedback on a development adjacent
to the Lions Park. The developer is seeking informal feedback on park
dedication options, including expansion of the park, prior to applying for a formal
review of the potential development.
III. Presentation of the Lions Park Preliminary Master Plan
Amanda Prosser, Landscape Architect from WSB & Associates, formerly Brauer
& Associates will present the Lions Park Preliminary Master Plan. The
Preliminary Master Plan includes an outline of next steps: schematic design,
design development and preparation of construction documents prior to
construction. Prosser will gather feedback from the public, stakeholders and the
Parks Commission. Staff recommends that a recommendation be made to the
City Council for approval of the Lions Park Master Plan with revisions as
discussed.
IV. LaValle Properties Park Dedication
Planning Intern Liz Hanson and Parks Planner Shayla Syverson will make a
presentation about a potential development and park dedication for properties
owned by Marvin LaValle located immediately west of Lions Park. The
Developer, Bill Lensch, will be present to gather feedback from the Parks
Commission on park dedication options prior to applying for formal approval of
the proposed residential development.
-2-
Parks Commission
September 26, 2012
