Agenda Number:
CITY OF HUGO
PARKS COMMISSION REPORT
TO: Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission
FROM: Shayla Syverson, Parks Planner
SUBJECT: Hardwood Creek Trail Master Plan Draft Review
DATE: April 5, 2013 for the Parks Meeting of April 10, 2013
1. INTRODUCTION:
Washington County has been master planning the Hardwood Creek Regional Trail
Corridor. The Hugo Parks, Recreation and Open Space Commission has been asked to
comment on a draft of the plan. Washington County Parks Manager Peter Mott will
present the Hardwood Creek Trail Master Plan Draft at the Parks Meeting of April 10,
2013.
The master plan includes the existing trail and proposed trail extensions following the
railroad corridor along Highway 61 from the southern border of Hugo and Washington
County to the northern border of Forest Lake and Washington County for a total of 12
miles. Because portions of the rail corridor are active and will continue to be in the
foreseeable future, local trails in Hugo are important in providing regional trail
connections.
2. GENERAL UPDATE ON THE TRAIL:
In addition to the master planning, there are a few other projects related to the Hardwood
Creek Trail.
Re -surfacing of Existing Trail:
Washington County will be resurfacing the existing County trail from 1456 street to the
northern County border. The trail is 9.5 miles long and sees heavy use. Cracks and pot
holes are appearing. Washington County has planned in the CIP to use a variety of
techniques to repair the trail: crack filling, overlays, and general rebuilding.
-1-
Hardwood Creek Trail
Master Plan Draft
April 10, 2013
