Parks, Recreation <br />Playground Program Starts <br />In discussions of recreation <br />programming in Hugo, a <br />playground program has <br />always been of interest. As <br />the City continues to build <br />additional <br />Program <br />Partici- <br />recreation <br />pants at programming, <br />Beaver Park Play Days <br />Ponds was launched in <br />Park. the summer of <br />2012. One 2 <br />hour session each week was <br />held at Beaver Ponds Park, <br />Oak Shore Park, Diamond <br />Point Park and Arbre Park. <br />The program was well <br />attended and each park <br />developed a group of kids <br />who regularly participated. <br />A variety of games and sports <br />were played, based on the <br />interests of, abilities and <br />number of kids attended. <br />Water games were a huge hit <br />with the kids as well as the <br />bounce castle.. The program <br />is sure to continue to grow in <br />popularity as more families <br />look to the City of Hugo for <br />more recreation options. <br />Stakeholders Plan Lions Park <br />In May 2012, the hiring of <br />Brauer and Associates to <br />master plan Lions Park was <br />approved. The Parks <br />Commission had started the <br />process by holding public <br />workshops and establishing <br />the Lions Park Master <br />Plan Guidelines in the <br />fall and winter of 2011. <br />In the most recent <br />phase of planning, the _ <br />landscape consultant ?U <br />hired worked with <br />stakeholders to put ; b <br />together a master plan • « <br />document that details ; <br />what and where park <br />features are preferred ; <br />as the park may develop <br />in the future. The <br />outcomes show that a <br />able for community gather- <br />ings is desirable. Future <br />planning phases will look at <br />the design of the shelter <br />itself. Large open spaces, <br />playgrounds, a skate park, a <br />water feature, court sport <br />CITY OF HUGO, MINNESOTA <br />large park shelter suit- T <br />play area, amphitheater and <br />a skating area shall also be <br />planned for. A centrally <br />located focal point, informal <br />landscaping and pedestrian <br />connections to Hugo city <br />Hall were also envisioned. <br />Page 3 <br />"Lions Park <br />will be a <br />jewel in the <br />Hugo Parks <br />System and <br />will <br />continue to <br />serve for <br />community <br />gatherings" <br />
