The information gathered at the public meetings and the Lions Park Master Plan Development <br />Guidelines, illustrated that the park shall have a park shelter, playground, open space, and a multi- <br />purpose open air pavilion. <br />2.2 CONCEPT PLANNING <br />A meeting was held July 12, 2012 to outline the main programming and facility needs of Lions Park. <br />Representatives of the Lions Club, Parks Commission and Councilman (now Mayor) Tom Weidt <br />participated. The Lions Club discussed their needs for Good Neighbor Days. Other topics included the <br />skate park equipment, trail connections, creating a sense of place, and providing a play area for the <br />neighborhood. <br />At the public workshop of August 8, 2012; stakeholders were presented with 3 concept plans. The plans <br />facilitated discussion to determine the amenities desired and the preferred arrangements of the various <br />features. Overall, the preferred concept showed an organic shaped trails as well as one large park <br />building that could include a kitchen, restrooms, storage, and covered picnic area. It also showed large <br />open spaces for informal ball games or events as well as a play area, tennis courts, possible parking <br />arrangements, and the skate park. <br />At the Parks Commission meeting of September 26, 2012, a workshop was held and the preliminary <br />master plan was presented. The stakeholders discussed the plan and recommended a few minor <br />changes. They also heard from Bill Lentsch and Corey Brunton regarding park land dedication for a <br />proposed development immediately west of the park. <br />3 PARKS COMMISSION DISCUSSION <br />At the Parks Commission meeting of October 10, 2012, the Parks Commission reviewed the Lions Park <br />Master Plan that included the recommended changes. The Parks Commission did not have any <br />additional changes to be made to the plan at the time. Discussion also included the next steps in park <br />development. The Parks Commission recommended that the Lions Park Master Plan to be presented to <br />the City Council for their review. The Parks Commission stated that they did not recommend final <br />approval of the Lions Park Master Plan and intended to continue to work with the developer, with a <br />willingness to make changes to the Lions Park Master Plan, on the recent proposal for a residential <br />development and park land dedication. <br />At the meeting of October 10, 2012, the Parks Commission shared with the developer their interest in <br />accepting land dedication or a combination of land and fee. The developer was asked to look at <br />alternatives for the proposed storm water pond as was not seen as a benefit to the park. The Parks <br />Commission stated an interest in continuing to work with the developer as they put together plans and <br />make a formal development application. <br />Lions Park Planning September 11, 2013 <br />
