3.2 POTENTIAL PROCESS
With Lions Park, there were two public meetings held after informal meetings and conversations with
individual stakeholders. The City Council did not approve hiring a consultant for this phase of the
process and staff conducted the meetings.
At the first public meeting, held in September 2011, stakeholders were invited including the Lions Club,
the Hugo Good Neighbors Food Shelf, surrounding property owners and the public. A Visual Preference
Survey was conducted in which workshop participants were asked to rank different images of a variety
of park uses and features. In small group discussions, preferences for how the park could look and be
used started.
At the second public meeting, held in October 2011, stakeholders brainstormed goals that would shape
how the park would develop, look, and be used.
At a Parks Commission meeting of November 9, 211, the Lions Park Master Plan Guidelines were revised
and recommended to the City Council. The City Council approved the Guidelines on November 21,
2011.
4 RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Parks Commission should discuss how to engage residents and stakeholders.
Stakeholder meetings could be held in June and July. Staff recommends that a recommendation be
made to the City Council for approval to hold public meetings to put together Master Plan Development
Guidelines for Irish Avenue Park.
5 ATTACHMENTS
1.
