Background <br />Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission <br />Meeting of May 11, 2016 <br />Hugo City Hall, 7:00 pm <br />Approve Minutes from Apri113, 2016 Meeting <br />Staff recommends approval of the minutes of the Parks Commission meeting of April 13, 2016. <br />PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED MINUTES. <br />Lions Park Workshop Update <br />A joint workshop of the City Council and Parks Commission was held on April 28, 2016. The agenda included <br />a tour, review of the master plan and vision, infrastructure options, and financing options of Lions Park. At <br />the meeting, staff was directed to look into a feasibility study. At their meeting of May 2, 2016, the City <br />Council approved an estimate of $17,000 for a feasibility study to be conducted by WSB and Associates. <br />Good Neighbor Days <br />The 40th annual Good Neighbor Days is going to be held by the Hugo Lions Club June 9 -12th. The City of Hugo <br />has been asked to sponsor the Golden Spike Contest as a part of Good Neighbor Days. Prompted by clues <br />made available by Press Publications, the public is invited to look for a golden spike in Hugo parks. A <br />sponsorship of $250 has been requested by Press Publications. <br />PLEASE SEE THE 2015 PRESS PUBLICATIONS ARTICLE FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUTTHE GOLDEN SPIKE CONTEST. <br />The City of Hugo has also been invited to host a booth in Heritage Square as a part of Good Neighbor Days. If <br />the Parks Commission is interested in volunteering to host the booth, it would be available to promote <br />recreation programs and the reconstruction of Lions Park. <br />Recreation Program Update <br />Staff will provide a brief update on recreation programs. <br />Missing Link Exercise <br />The Parks Commission prioritized trails at their 2016 goal setting. This includes reviewing and updating the <br />Parks, Trails, and Open Space Plan and identifying missing trail links. At the meeting of February 10, 2016, <br />the Parks Commission reviewed the Parks, Trails, and Open Space Plan. The review included the purpose of <br />each type of trail, collaboration with property owners and developers, and the importance of regional <br />coordination.
