CITY OF HUGO <br />PROCLAMATION <br />DECLARING OCTOBER 1, 2016 AS <br />SENIOR HOUSING <br />AWARENESS DAY <br />WHEREAS, by year 2020, the State of Minnesota will have more people over the age of 65 than <br />school -aged children; and <br />WHEREAS, in 2015, the City of Hugo participated in a community engagement process initiated by the <br />White Bear Lake Area School District regarding the aging senior population which led to an on-going <br />community forum, the creation of action teams, and the generation of a number of actionable items to work <br />toward a more age -friendly community; and <br />WHEREAS, White Bear Lake Area School District already has over 10,000 seniors compared to <br />approximately 8,500 students currently enrolled and the number of seniors will continue to grow; and <br />WHEREAS, a 2015 resident phone survey identified senior housing as a key concern in our area and <br />revealed that local seniors have deep roots in the community and plan to live out their lives here; and <br />WHEREAS, building awareness of local senior housing options may enable our aging residents to <br />remain in the community for as long as they desire <br />THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Hugo hereby proclaims Sunday, October 1st, <br />2016 as Senior Housing Awareness Day in the City of Hugo. <br />On this 19`h Day of September, 2016. <br />Tom Weidt, Mayor <br />ATTEST: <br />Michele Lindau, City Clerk <br />
