CITY OF HUGO
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
TO: Bryan Bear, City Administrator
FROM: Scott Anderson, Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Replacement of 2007 Sterling Snowplow Truck
DATE: For the City Council Meeting of September 19, 2016
BACKGROUND
Included in the City's Equipment Purchasing Fund is $185,000 for the replacement of
snow plow truck #202-07 in the year 2017, following the City's 10 year equipment
replacement schedule.
After reviewing the maintenance history for this truck, Public Works staff is
recommending that we continue to follow our 10 year replacement schedule and
purchase the replacement in 2017 as scheduled.
Truck #202-07 is a Sterling single axle plow/dump truck that was purchased in 2007.
Along with plowing snow, this truck is utilized to meet other department needs such as
gravel road maintenance, roadside ditching, paving and shouldering projects.
The truck that is being specified by Public Works staff to replace truck #202-07 is
similar to the trucks that the City has purchased over the past few years. Public Works
staff has spent many hours researching the available makes and models from all
manufacturers. Staff contacted many neighboring Public Works Departments to get
their opinions on the performance and reliability of the trucks recently purchased by
them. This was a great advantage when selecting a manufacture and staff is confident
in the decision that was made in the past two years, especially when considering cost,
performance and reliability. This decision continues to be especially important as we
plan future plow truck replacements.
