Firefiuhter Eligibility Requirements: To be eligible for a firefighter <br />position, all applicants must meet the following requirements: <br />• Be 18 years of age or over. <br />• Be a high school graduate or equivalent. <br />• Hold a valid State of Minnesota driver's license. <br />• Have a primary residence within a fivesix-minute radius of the <br />fire station and ATrith .. the City o f H*g . <br />• Complete the application for employment and an <br />Authorization for Release of Information form. <br />• Successfully complete and pass the background check, <br />physical exam and drug and alcohol screening. <br />• Pass a criminal and driving record check. <br />• Pass Firefighter Physical Fitness Test. <br />• Pass medical exam provided by the Fire Department. <br />• Pass personal evaluation provided by Fire Department <br />• Be selected for position. <br />f. FirefighterRResponse Requirements: Te be <br />a <br />Firefighters who join the Hugo Fire Department must be able to <br />respond to the Hugo fire station within minutes under normal <br />driving conditions while obeying all traffic laws. The Fire Chief has the <br />right to remove an employee from the department if he or she moves <br />outside of the eity's r.,,,.n,asix minutes response time. <br />g. Firefighter Physical Standards. Firefighters are required to meet standards <br />of physical ability to effectively perform firefighter duties. Firefighters <br />must pass the Agility Test and Oral Interview to become a firefighter. <br />6.0 Probationary Period <br />a. All appointments for regular, full-time and part-time employees are <br />subject to a six-month training and evaluation period. If during the first <br />180 days of service in a position, a person has not demonstrated an <br />acceptable level of ability, aptitude, and performance for the position <br />assigned, they will be removed from service. Department heads will <br />recommend to the City Council whether to retain an employee prior to <br />the end of the employee's training and evaluation period. Nothing within <br />this provision alters the status of the "at -will" relationship between the <br />employee and the City of Hugo during the probationary period. As such, <br />the employee may be terminated at any time, for any lawful reason, at <br />any time during his/her employment with the City, including during the <br />probationary period. <br />
