Hugo Historical Commission
2016 - The Year In Review
Started our Eagle Scout and Baseball Teams of Hugo projects in January which led to a
successful completion
- Sent photos to Deb Neutkens for occasional blurb in The Citizen
- Framed the photo of the 1941 State Firemen's Convention
Discussed security at City Hall, Kathy B attended the meeting and gave a report
Vi's passing in April
Our group really came together and worked hard for GND display, especially Trina. I
think we are a closer group than before.
Tried intensive add campaign before Good Neighbor Days. Spent $650
Email from John B who lives in Ontario Canada who had donated a Police Sgt badge in
2010. Wanted a photo of it on display at City Hall or at GND. Purchased a nice display
box, added other badges and patches we have, took a photo and sent it to him.
Call from Rosella Galedo of Albuquerque, New Mexico requesting info on Peltier family.
There were two people in the last year who left messages on my cell phone that they
were interested in the HHC. I tried calling them back, left a message and also directed
them to fill out a form at City Hall. I wonder if that was a turn-off? Neither of them
called back or filled out a form. They may not want to take the time to apply.
Had a super productive work day organizing and identifying projects. I think that over
time we became less organized and so have a bit of a mess to clean up. There is a whole
lot to do on the computer, correcting the 30+ oral histories and printing them off so
they can be read by the public at GND and eventually online. Lots of time consuming
things to do. We could use someone who likes to work on the computer.
- Yellow Ribbon used the display case and we plan on doing that every year after GND.
2017 - Goals for the HHC
1) Add volunteers — especially looking for computer skilled person, place ads regularly
2) Get help with learning Past Perfect (ask Forest Lake Hist Soc or Mn HS)
3) Keep organizing the archives we have
4) Change out items in the display case every 3-4 months
5) Intern next summer?
6) New ideas for projects
