Community Development Assistant Rachel Leitz
explained that the Fire Hall was constructed in 1998, and staff had been working on the process
of roof replacement following the bidding process. She talked about the installation of solar
panels on the facility and described two potential systems. With the cost, lifespan, and size of the
project, staff felt it was not the best option at this time, but the roof would be engineered to hold
a future installation of a solar energy system. Next steps in the process are to prepare plans and
specs and approve the advertisement of bids for the project to be done this year. Council agreed
it did not seem fiscally responsible to put solar panels on the roof at this time.
