BACKGROUND MEMO FOR THE EDA MEETING OF TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2008 3. Approval of Minutes for EDA meeting of January 22, 2008 City staff recommends that the EDA approve the minutes for the January 22, 2008 EDA meeting as presented. 4. Discussion and Approval of the 2008 EDA Goals Attached are the 2008 goals that were outlined at the January EDA meeting. Staff recommends that the EDA review and approve the 2008 goals 5. Discussion on Business Retention and Expansion Committee At the January meeting the EDA was presented with a business retention and expansion program from the U of M extension services. The EDA outlined in their 2008 goal that a business retention and expansion subcommittee should be formed to work on retention and expansion of business in Hugo. Staff would like the EDA to discuss forming a subcommittee. 6. Discussion on Hugo Kidz n' Biz Fest Donation On April 6th, 2008, the 4th annual Kidz `n Biz Fest will take place at the Oneka Elementary School. This annual event is an opportunity for the Hugo Business Association and the Hugo EDA to directly connect with Hugo families and children in a PTA carnival atmosphere. This event is expected to attract more than 400 Hugo children and their families, and will once again feature an assortment of carnival games presented by Hugo businesses with assistance from the WBL High School and National Honor Society. Last year the EDA and the Hugo Business Association(HBA) co-sponsored the event in the amount of$500. Staff recommends that the EDA make a recommendation to the City Council that the EDA co-sponsor with the HBA for Hugo Kidz `n Biz Fest. 7. Update on Downtown Redevelopment Staff will update the EDA on the progress of the downtown redevelopment in Hugo. 8. SITE VISIT TO INDUSTRIAL PAINTING SPECIALISTS Industrial Painting Specialists was founded in 1992. They have a state-of-the-art 40,000- square-foot facility located at 5858 152nd Street in Hugo. They apply all wet-coatings systems using airless and conventional spray equipment. Their lifting equipment includes three, 10-ton overhead bridge cranes.
