BACKGROUND MEMO FOR THE EDA MEETING OF <br /> TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2008 <br /> 3. Approval of Minutes for EDA meeting of January 22, 2008 <br /> City staff recommends that the EDA approve the minutes for the January 22, 2008 EDA <br /> meeting as presented. <br /> 4. Discussion and Approval of the 2008 EDA Goals <br /> Attached are the 2008 goals that were outlined at the January EDA meeting. Staff <br /> recommends that the EDA review and approve the 2008 goals <br /> 5. Discussion on Business Retention and Expansion Committee <br /> At the January meeting the EDA was presented with a business retention and expansion <br /> program from the U of M extension services. The EDA outlined in their 2008 goal that a <br /> business retention and expansion subcommittee should be formed to work on retention <br /> and expansion of business in Hugo. Staff would like the EDA to discuss forming a <br /> subcommittee. <br /> 6. Discussion on Hugo Kidz n' Biz Fest Donation <br /> On April 6th, 2008, the 4th annual Kidz `n Biz Fest will take place at the Oneka <br /> Elementary School. This annual event is an opportunity for the Hugo Business <br /> Association and the Hugo EDA to directly connect with Hugo families and children in a <br /> PTA carnival atmosphere. This event is expected to attract more than 400 Hugo children <br /> and their families, and will once again feature an assortment of carnival games presented <br /> by Hugo businesses with assistance from the WBL High School and National Honor <br /> Society. Last year the EDA and the Hugo Business Association(HBA) co-sponsored the <br /> event in the amount of$500. Staff recommends that the EDA make a recommendation to <br /> the City Council that the EDA co-sponsor with the HBA for Hugo Kidz `n Biz Fest. <br /> 7. Update on Downtown Redevelopment <br /> Staff will update the EDA on the progress of the downtown redevelopment in Hugo. <br /> 8. SITE VISIT TO INDUSTRIAL PAINTING SPECIALISTS <br /> Industrial Painting Specialists was founded in 1992. They have a state-of-the-art 40,000- <br /> square-foot facility located at 5858 152nd Street in Hugo. They apply all wet-coatings <br /> systems using airless and conventional spray equipment. Their lifting equipment includes <br /> three, 10-ton overhead bridge cranes. <br />
