School is <br />Back in <br />Session! <br />The old District No. 73 <br />Hopkins Schoolhouse — located <br />at 5970 170th Street North <br />Are you interested in the future of the old school house? <br />Over 50 years after Hopkins School held its last class and after more than a decade of vacancy, the City <br />of Hugo and the Hugo Historical Commission is opening the schoolhouse doors for an evening of <br />history and community engagement. Come learn the history of the schoolhouse, share stories with friends <br />and neighbors, and discuss possibilities for the building's future on Monday, September 18, from 4:00 <br />to 7:00 pm. <br />Questions? Please contact History Intern Olivia Schiffman at 651-762-6318. <br />Washington <br />.-vCounty <br />Sheriff <br />Bill Hutton <br />Retires <br />Sheriff Bill Hutton announced his retirement after serving as <br />the County's Sheriff for more than 10 years. He will take over <br />as the Executive Director of the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association <br />and continue to add to his 33 years of work in law enforce- <br />ment. Along with his everyday work in public safety, Hutton <br />has been involved in a number of community engagement <br />programs, including the Youth Service Bureau, a youth crime <br />diversionary program, which he has been involved with since <br />1979. The City of Hugo <br />would like to thank Sheriff Hutton for his service and wish him <br />the best in his retirement. <br />Dan Starry Sworn in as <br />Washington County Sheriff <br />The County Board has appointed Chief Deputy Dan <br />Starry to fill Hutton's term of office, which runs through <br />January 7, 2019. Starry has worked in numerous capacities at <br />the Washington County Sheriff's Office since 1993. Starry was <br />appointed as Chief Deputy under Sheriff Hutton in October <br />2010. Starry's work has allowed him to develop experience <br />in financial administration, program development, strategic <br />planning, leadership, crisis management, staff training and <br />management, and relationship building. The City of Hugo <br />4 would like to congratulate Sheriff Starry on the new position <br />and is looking forward to working with him in continuing to <br />offer excellent public safety to Hugo residents. <br />
