BACKGROUND MEMO FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON JANUARY 8, 2018 <br />D.1 Approval of Minutes for the December 14, 2017 Holiday Party <br />D.2 Approval of Minutes for the December 18, 2017 City Council Meeting <br />Staff recommends Council approve the above minutes as presented. <br />F.1 Recognition of Yellow Ribbon Network Sponsor of the Year Mark Schwope <br />Over the past year, Mark Schwope has been a generous donator to the Yellow Ribbon Network. <br />The Council will recognize Mark Schwope's contributions and present him with the Burger <br />Night of the Year Award. <br />F.2 Swearing in of New Assistant Chief David Jensen <br />At its December 4, 2017, meeting, Council approved David Jensen as the new Assistant Chief <br />after the retirement of Jim Fordham. David Jensen will be sworn in as Assistant Chief on the <br />Hugo Fire Department. <br />F.3 Swearing in of Firefighters Andy Luchsinger, Matt Drew, and Jason Palmquist <br />At its December 4, 2017, meeting, Council approved Andy Luchsinger, Matt Drew, and Jason <br />Palmquist as regular firefighters after completing all the necessary probationary requirements. <br />Luchsinger, Drew and Palmquist will be sworn in as firefighters on the Hugo Fire Department. <br />F.4 Presentation of Certificate of Appreciation for Retired Firefighter Jim Fordham <br />At its December 4, 2017, meeting, Council approved the retirement of Assistant Chief Jim <br />Fordham. Council will present Fordham with a Certificate of Appreciation for his ten years on <br />the Hugo Fire Department. <br />G. 1 Approval of Claims <br />Staff recommends Council approve the Claims Roster as presented. <br />G. 2 Approve Appointment of Becky Petryk as Acting Mayor <br />Each year, the Council appoints a member of the Council for the position of Acting Mayor. On <br />behalf of Mayor Tom Weidt, City staff recommends approval of the appointment of Council <br />Member Becky Petryk as Acting Mayor for the year 2018. <br />G. 3 Approve Appointment of WSB and Associates as City Engineer <br />WSB Engineers has been the City Engineer for the past 14 years. Recently, Mark Erichson has <br />handled the day-to-day civil engineering duties, and Pete Willenbring continues as the water <br />resource engineer. WSB Engineers is requesting to continue to provide this service to the City at <br />the revised rate schedule as enclosed. City staff recommends approval of the appointment of <br />WSB Engineers and Mark Erichson as the City Engineer for 2018. <br />
