CITY OF HUGO <br />i <br />CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT <br />TO: Bryan Bear, City Administrator <br />Ron Otkin, Finance Director <br />FROM: Scott Anderson, Public Works Director <br />SUBJECT: Hiring of Steve Duff as Seasonal Engineering Technician <br />DATE: April 12, 2018 <br />BACKGROUND <br />City staff recently met with former Senior Engineering Technician, Steve Duff, to <br />discuss the possibility of seasonal employment to assist with ongoing engineering <br />functions throughout the City. The City has been unsuccessful in filling the vacant <br />Engineering Technician position since Steve's retirement in January. Staff expects to <br />re -advertise and continue the search to fill the vacant position in the early fall. <br />Meanwhile, the City will be relying on a combination of Public Works staff, WSB and <br />Associates staff and Steve Duff to continue to perform the essential engineering tasks. <br />DESIRED ACTION <br />Staff is requesting council authorization to hire Steve Duff as a Seasonal Engineering <br />Technician, with the expectations of working approximately Y2 time (40 hours per 2 <br />week pay period) at a pay rate of $30 per hour as needed throughout the summer and <br />fall of 2018. <br />
