'Beapart of dreNot 40YearsCapitalCampaign"
2016=2019
Back in 2013 when the City of Forest Lake gave notice they intended to sell the building we'd occupied for 20 years,
our Board of Directors worked hard to find us a new home. In September of 2016 we found a great new space in the
Town Square building in Forest Lake that gave us the opportunity to create new space that meets the needs of
today's young people even better than our old space. Our Capital Campaign began in October 2016 and community
leaders stepped forward to fund a large portion of the costs. On March 6th, we moved into our new home with our
new name that better reflects the fact that we serve youth and families. What a great way to celebrate our 40 year
anniversary!
Lakes Center for Youth & Families would like to thank the following individuals, businesses and orgari, izations for
their support to make our new home a reality. Because of you, we are well -positioned to serve area youth and
families for the next 40 years and beyond.
FOUNDER ($50,000 +)
Fred C. & Katherine B. Hunt
Kathryn Johnson
Mary Juhl
Kevin & Kathy Kirvida
Janice and Paul Klaus
Carolyn Latady
Planning Bfight Futures...
To say that 2017 was a year of change for our agency would be an
understatement!
In 2017 we:
Completed a capital campaign raising $250,000+ towards the
purchase and renovation of our new space.
Purchased, and moved into our new location in the Town Square
building at 20 Lake Street North, Forest Lake in February.
Changed our name from Lakes Area Youth Service Bureau to
Lakes Center for Youth & Families.
Celebrated the retirement of our Executive Director Jeanne Walz
who had served us for twenty years and the non-profit sector
for nearly forty years!
When I accepted the Executive Director position in early 2018, 1
inherited a rich history of an organization that stays relevant to the
changing needs of its community while at the same time always
remaining true to its mission to "Ensure the success of youth" through
quality programming with highly trained and professional staff.
While many things have changed, there is much that has stayed the
same. We are still committed to serving youth through what I like to
call, "The three legged stool" of service areas: Counseling, Enrichment
& Intervention. It's the commitment to providing these diverse ways
of serving youth that helps keep us thinking holistically about youth
and their families. Integrated service delivery isn't just a fancy
buzzword, its research based and gets results.
As I look forward into future I am very excited about the strength and
vitality of the agency. All of the past leadership, both Board and staff,
have brought us to a place where we are positioned to continue to do
great things for youth and families.
If you're reading this, you are a part of our story and what helps make
us great. Thank you!
Let's together push forward to make a brighter future for the youth
and families of our community.
Sincerely,
Matt Howard, Executive Director
Matt Howard
Executive Director
Sherriff Rick Duncan
Board Chair
