Motion carried. <br />Swearing in of Brian Esch as Firefighter and Brian Kindelberger as Lieutenant <br />At its July 2, 2018, meeting, Council approved Brian Esch as a regular firefighter on the Hugo <br />Fire Department. Fire Chief Kevin Colvard performed the swearing in of Brian. Brian <br />explained that he came to City Hall to pick up a building permit and made the decision to <br />become a firefighter. He said he has been in the City for many years and has enjoyed seeing it <br />grow. <br />At its March 5, 2018, meeting, Council approved the promotion of Brian Kindelberger to <br />Lieutenant on the Hugo Fire Department. Fire Chief Kevin Colvard performed the swearing in of <br />Brian. Brian thanked the Council for the opportunity, and said he has enjoyed volunteering in <br />the community and will continue to do so. <br />Recognition of the Hugo Fire Department for Recent Support of the Yellow Ribbon <br />Network <br />Haas added this to the agenda to present the Hugo Fire Department with a letter of appreciation <br />from the 148th Fighter Wing for their care package support. Several hundred of the airmen <br />recently returned home from a multi -month deployment to the Middle East where the Air Wing's <br />F-16s flew over 3,000 hours on 600 combat missions against ISIS forces in support of Operation <br />Inherent Resolve. <br />Recognize donation from Emagine Theatres <br />Haas added this to the agenda to talk about his connection with the Emagine Theaters. Haas had <br />requested free passes for seven families of deployed military members. Travis Joseph, Regional <br />Events Manager of Emagine Theatres was not able to attend the meeting but will be at the next <br />meeting to present the donation. <br />Recess <br />Weidt called for a short recess, and the meeting reconvened at 7:18 p.m. <br />Forest Lake School District Update — Superintendent Steve Massey <br />Superintendent Steve Massey provided the Council an update on the Forest Lake School District. <br />Steve stated he was starting his 2nd year as Superintendent but has been at the school district for <br />14 years. He explained that Forest Lake has seven schools, and the growth in Hugo will engage <br />the community more deeply into the school district. He said they recently received a statewide <br />award for positive behavior intervention support, and the high school was ranked 36th in the <br />state. Also, the agriculture program just received the MN Agriculture Education Award, and he <br />thanked Mike Miron for his help. Steve talked about the bond referendum that was passed in <br />2015 and explained that every school in the district was receiving vast improvements, including <br />
