RESOLUTION NO. 2018 - 29 <br />CITY OF HUGO <br />WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN <br />SUPPORTING THE FOREST LAKE AREA SCHOOLS <br />OPERATING LEVY REFERENDUM <br />WHEREAS, the Forest Lake Area School District serves residents of the City of Hugo; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, much of the future residential growth in the City of Hugo will be in the <br />Forest Lake Area School District; and <br />WHEREAS, state per pupil education funding has not kept pace with inflation; and <br />WHEREAS, Minnesota school districts use voter approved operating levy funds to offset <br />lagging state per pupil funding; and <br />WHEREAS, the Forest Lake Area School District has an operating referendum on the <br />November 6th ballot to revoke and replace its current levy of $462 with an increase of <br />$825 per pupil for a total operating levy of $1,287 per pupil; now, <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY OF HUGO THAT THE <br />CITY: <br />1. Recognizes the need and importance for the Forest Lake Area School District's <br />operating levy increase; and <br />2. Urges the residents of the City of Hugo to learn about the District's referendum <br />question by attending one of seven community conversations, visiting the <br />District's website, and carefully review the material provided by the District; and <br />3. Urges the residents of the City of Hugo to vote in support of the November 6, <br />2018, election. <br />Whereupon said resolution was declared passed an opt this 1St day of October, <br />2018. <br />Tom Weidt, ayor <br />ATTEST: <br />Michele Lindau, City Clerk <br />
