MINUTES FOR THE EDA MEETING OF JUNE 18, 2018 <br />Weidt called the meeting to order at 5:02 pm. <br />PRESENT: Denaway, Gallivan, Houle, Klein, Petty, Weidt. <br />ABSENT: Puleo. <br />STAFF: Bryan Bear, City Administrator <br />Rachel Juba, Community Development Director <br />Pierre Giguere, Community Development Intern <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES FOR THE EDA MEETING OF MAY 15, 2018 <br />Klein made a motion, Petty seconded, to approve minutes for the EDA meeting of May 15, 2018. <br />All Ayes. Motion carried. <br />DISCUSSION ON 2017 EDA ANNAUL REPORT <br />Juba introduces the 2017 EDA Annual Report to the EDA and discusses the expansions and developments that <br />have taken place within Hugo, including Western Spring's recent 32,000 square foot site expansion as well as <br />Xcel Energy's training facility expansion. Juba also announces the groundbreaking and raising of the Good <br />Life Senior Living facility which is set to be completed in the fall of 2018. In addition to these recent <br />expansions and developments, Juba also discusses Washington County's strategic plan for economic <br />development. The City's strategic plan includes a drafted economic plan that provides steps on how the County <br />will be involved in relation to current and future economic development. Set goals for the plan include the <br />provision of resources to both newly established and previously established businesses to ensure greater <br />economic success. The plan also emphasizes the importance of strong partnerships between Washington <br />County and local businesses. Juba then briefly discusses developments that were not listed on the newest 2017 <br />EDA report including the Gopher State Ministorage development. As mentioned by Juba, the site is not yet <br />completed. <br />UPDATE ON DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT <br />Juba discusses the more recent developments and redevelopments taking place in the City including the <br />building permit that was recently issued to the O'Reilly Auto Parts development. Although the development <br />is underway, Juba mentions the fact that O'Reilly's building engineers have yet to revise and finalize the <br />development's building plans. <br />Petty mentions the situation with the type of parking being planned for the upcoming O'Reilly auto parts <br />development and showed some concern with the amount of parking that will be required for the building in <br />relation to City parking ordinance. Juba states that the applicant received a variance from the parking <br />regulations. <br />Juba also highlights the pending re -zoning that has been requested by TGK automotive. The business is <br />proposing to relocate to a new site. However, the new site is not zoned for a retail auto body shop, therefore, a <br />re -zoning is required. The submitted application is currently under review. <br />ADJOURNMENT <br />Klein made a motion, seconded by Houle, to adjourn at 5:55 pm. <br />All ayes. Motion carried. <br />
