BACKGROUND MEMO FOR THE EDA MEETING OF <br />TUESDAY, MARCH 20, 2018 <br />3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />Staff recommends approval of the minutes from the January 16, 2018, EDA meeting as presented. <br />4. DISCUSSION ON WASHINGTON COUNTY CDA PREDEVELOPMENT GRANT <br />Chris Eng, Washington County Economic Development Director, will discuss the Washington County <br />CDA Predevelopment Grant, which is provided to cities, townships and local government development <br />authorities located in Washington County. These funds are intended to: 1) increase the availability of <br />shovel ready properties in the county; 2) provide opportunities for our existing businesses to stay and <br />grow here in Washington County; 3) spur new business development and job opportunities in the <br />County; 4) provide opportunities for business diversity; 5) increased commercial and industrial market <br />values within Washington County, and 6) assist with removing blighted properties. <br />5. UPDATE ON WASHINGTON COUNTY CDA OPEN TO BUSINESS PROGRAM <br />Beginning in July, 2017 the Community Development Agency Board (CDA) approved an 18 -month <br />contract with Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers (MCCD) to begin operating the Open <br />to Business Program in Washington County. Open to Business is a great resource for small and <br />emerging businesses in Washington County that may need support with business feasibility, planning, <br />financing, licensing, and regulatory issues. Chris Eng, Washington County Economic Development <br />Director, will provide an update to the EDA on the success of the program. <br />6. UPDATE ON SCHWIETERS DEVELOPMENT EXPANSION <br />Schwieters Properties, LLP. submitted a concept plan to receive informal comments from the various <br />Commissions and City Council prior to moving forward with the formal development approval process <br />in December, 2017. Staff will update the EDA the on the Schwieters concept plan and how the project is <br />moving forward. <br />7. UPDATE ON DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT <br />Staff will provide an update on downtown redevelopment at the meeting. <br />
