BACKGROUND MEMO FOR THE EDA MEETING OF TUESDAY, MARCH 20, 2018 3. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Staff recommends approval of the minutes from the January 16, 2018, EDA meeting as presented. 4. DISCUSSION ON WASHINGTON COUNTY CDA PREDEVELOPMENT GRANT Chris Eng, Washington County Economic Development Director, will discuss the Washington County CDA Predevelopment Grant, which is provided to cities, townships and local government development authorities located in Washington County. These funds are intended to: 1) increase the availability of shovel ready properties in the county; 2) provide opportunities for our existing businesses to stay and grow here in Washington County; 3) spur new business development and job opportunities in the County; 4) provide opportunities for business diversity; 5) increased commercial and industrial market values within Washington County, and 6) assist with removing blighted properties. 5. UPDATE ON WASHINGTON COUNTY CDA OPEN TO BUSINESS PROGRAM Beginning in July, 2017 the Community Development Agency Board (CDA) approved an 18 -month contract with Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers (MCCD) to begin operating the Open to Business Program in Washington County. Open to Business is a great resource for small and emerging businesses in Washington County that may need support with business feasibility, planning, financing, licensing, and regulatory issues. Chris Eng, Washington County Economic Development Director, will provide an update to the EDA on the success of the program. 6. UPDATE ON SCHWIETERS DEVELOPMENT EXPANSION Schwieters Properties, LLP. submitted a concept plan to receive informal comments from the various Commissions and City Council prior to moving forward with the formal development approval process in December, 2017. Staff will update the EDA the on the Schwieters concept plan and how the project is moving forward. 7. UPDATE ON DOWNTOWN REDEVELOPMENT Staff will provide an update on downtown redevelopment at the meeting.
