Natural Resources <br />Hugo has a community that has a variety of natural communities <br />that enrich the lives of the residents. The Minnesota Department of <br />Natural Resources defines natural communities as "groups of native <br />plants and native animals that interact with each other and with the <br />surrounding nonliving environment, generally in ways not greatly <br />altered by humans or introduced plants or animals". Many of the <br />natural communities that once existed in Hugo have been eliminated, <br />however, the remaining communities are important to the community <br />and region. In 2008, the City identified a Greenway Corridor to help <br />prioritize natural resource protection and land acquisition. This section <br />looks the natural resources that serve as the basis for park and land <br />acquisition. <br />As part of the 2017 update, Hugo reviewed updated the Natural <br />Resource Inventory data from the Minnesota Department of Natural <br />Resources and the Greenway Corridor Map.
