110PARKS , TRAILS AND OPEN SPACE2040 COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE DRAFT Dec14-17 <br />for review only <br />DRAFT Dec14-17 <br />for review only <br />Community Feedback <br />This chapter serves as an update to the 2030 Comprehensive Plan� The City held an extensive public planning process in 2017� The process <br />included: <br />• Two community needs assessment surveys <br />• A series of open houses and workshops where residents were asked to identify and prioritize parks system needs <br />In the surveys and open houses, residents were asked to provide general feedback on the types of activities they currently engage in, the impact <br />of the parks system on health and well-being, and changes they would like to see in both the parks and trails system� Residents were also asked <br />to provide feedback on more specific amenities and safety features of the parks and trails system such as, the types of amenities that should be <br />prioritized, the most important features of the parks and trails system, priority natural resources and the most urgent needs for the parks system� <br />Feedback from residents indicated that : <br />• Facility needs are evolving� Residents indicated that while <br />traditional amenities are valued, they would like to see <br />different types of park amenities such as dog parks and <br />splash pads� <br />• A variety of facilities are needed to serve a wide range of <br />ages, abilities, and interests� With a wide range of resident <br />ages, residents indicated a desire to see trails, playgrounds, <br />and sport courts that can be used at any age and for a <br />range of uses� <br />• Natural resources are an important component of the <br />system and may provide opportunities for water recreation <br />and additional trails� <br />• Trails are high value amenities of the parks system� In every <br />survey and open house, residents provided feedback trails <br />were highly valued and that they would like to see more <br />trails in the community� <br />• Trails and opens space should be connected to create <br />a linear park� Residents also indicated that trails should <br />connect key areas of the community, including parks and <br />the downtown areas� <br />In 2017, the Comprehensive Plan was updated based on feedback from the public planning process. Residents overwhelmingly identified Hugo’s <br />parks, trails and open space as an asset to the community�
