Background <br />Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission <br />Meeting of May 17, 2017 <br />Hugo City Hall, 7:00 pm <br />Approve Minutes from March 15, 2017 Meeting <br />Staff recommends approval of the minutes of the Parks Commission meeting of March 15, 2017. <br />PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED MINUTES. <br />Goodview Avenue Property Discussion <br />The Parks Commission has discussed the Goodview Avenue Property in the past. Ongoing complaints have <br />been received regarding the property. At their August 10, 2016 meeting the Parks Commission directed staff <br />to look into options for the property such as selling the property or making significant changes to the <br />landscape of the property. At their meeting of September 5, 2016, the City Council reviewed the options for <br />the property and provided input that the property should remain city -owned. At their meeting of October <br />12, 2016 the Parks Commission scheduled a neighborhood meeting for November 9, 2016. <br />A neighborhood meeting was held on November 9, 2016. Several residents attended and shared a variety of <br />opinions of what should be done with the property. The Parks Commission wanted to continue the <br />discussion at a later date. <br />THE MEMO AND MINUTES FROM THE NOVEMBER 9, 2016 MEETING ARE ATTACHED. <br />Request from Bruce Bernin <br />Bruce & Virginia Bernin, who rent and oversee the city -owned property on the south side of Oneka Lake, <br />have made a request to the Parks Commission. The Bernins would like to replace the environmental signs on <br />the property. The signs are located along the trails and have quotes from Aldo Leopold, Henry David <br />Thoreau, etc. Bernin has started this project and is requesting reimbursement of $193.76 for the cost of the <br />signs, of which staff recommends approval. <br />INFORMATION FROM BRUCE AND VIRGINIA BERNIN IS ATTACHED. <br />Updates <br />Information on recent projects is attached as an update. Staff is available for any questions. <br />Pollinator Project at Irish Avenue Park <br />A curtesy notification has been sent to residents that live within 500 feet of the park. Work to plant the 3 <br />acres of pollinator habitat is starting soon. <br />Lions Park Feasibility Study <br />A draft feasibility study will be presented at a future meeting. Staff is working with City Engineer Mark <br />Erichson to add addition information to the study including an evaluation of the current condition of the <br />elements at the park, and guidance on involving stakeholders in the planning phases and fund raising. <br />
