CITY OF
14669 Fitzgerald Avenue North, Hugo, MN55038 • (651) 762-6300 • www.6hugo.mn.us
- - EST.1906
May 10, 2017
Dear Resident,
The City of Hugo is partnering with Washington County Pheasants Forever to enhance pollinator habitats at
Irish Avenue Park. The project will take place starting in May on three acres near south end of the park off of
CR 8. It will not result in a change of the park landscape or current use.
The project will be conducted by members of the Washington County Pheasants Forever and youth
volunteers. Because it is volunteer driven, it is necessary to only involve three acres of the 125 acre park. The
area will be treated with herbicide and tilled before being replanted with a native flowering plants.
A diverse mixture of native flowering plants of different color, shape and size is what is needed to support the
life cycle needs of many pollinator species. This pollinator habitat would support bees, butterflies, and
beetles. In turn, this also provides a great habitat for pheasants, quail, and grass land song birds.
The project benefits include quality pollinator foraging and nesting habitat, but also opportunities for youth
to get outside and gain an appreciation for wildlife and conservation. We wanted to alert you that you may
see volunteers doing this work at the park. We send a big thank you to Washington County Pheasants
Forever and all the local volunteers for their work in enhancing pollinator habitats at the park.
If you have any questions about the project, please contact Public Works Director Scott Anderson at 651-762-
6326 or snderson&ci.hugo.mn.us.
Sincerely,
- 4" c- 'DAaAt
Shayla Denaway
Parks Planner
CC: Parks Commission
City Council
Scott Anderson, Public Works Director
