this year. The District has interest in using the existing PW Facility for their grounds <br />maintenance operations if the City moves Public Works to a new site. Additionally, there will be <br />an addition to Oneka Elementary, and Hugo Elementary will be converted to an early childhood <br />center. <br />Technology. The staff continues implementation of a document imaging system. Much <br />of this conversion to electronic files has been complete, which is improving the way that service <br />is delivered. Staff has also been working on the implementation of a new permitting software <br />that will allow for electronic submittals of permits and plans. When the project is complete this <br />spring, much of the transactional business that must now occur at the front counter, will occur <br />on-line instead. New A/V equipment was recently installed within the Council Chambers and <br />Oneka Room. Council may wish to discuss electronic packets, including city -issued tablets. <br />Comprehensive Plan / Ordinances. This significant effort was completed in 2019. In <br />2020, the Community Development Department will begin implementation measures, which <br />normally starts with an evaluation of city ordinances. <br />The Historical Commission goals for 2020 focus on membership, social media <br />presence, and discussion on a possible new chairperson. The Commission is working on special <br />projects including research on the origins of Hugo's name, and the old settlement called Weston. <br />A Committee continues to meet on the Hopkins Schoolhouse and may be prepared to begin <br />making recommendations. The Commission will also continue to maintain the display case, and <br />host open houses. <br />The Beautification Subcommittee has been established and has been making <br />recommendations on entry signs, landscaping, monuments, and other items to improve the city's <br />appearance. This year, a new monument sign at the city's north entrance is anticipated. <br />New Building Official. Chuck Preisler has announced his retirement near the end of <br />2020. The City will be working to select a suitable replacement. <br />STAFF RECOMMENDATION: <br />Staff recommends council use the information provided to discuss and prepare a list of goals for <br />2020. <br />
