As the sole provider of food shelf service in the community, they currently serve an average of over 125 households per month. The 2018 yearly report indicated that 143,453 pounds of food were distributed. The Hugo Good Neighbor Food Shelf is currently staffed by 35 active volunteers and the Board of Directors consists of 14 individuals. The support of the Hugo Good Neighbor Food Shelf founders and the support of new volunteers exhibits the community's support for the organization and the organization's outlook towards the future. The Hugo Good Neighbor Food Shelf has a number of active community business partnerships. These partnerships include Festival Foods, Kowalski's, Fresh Thyme and Grundhoffer's Old Fashioned Meats. The ability of these community organizations to create new and lasting partnerships is a testament to their dedication to ensure the needs of the surrounding communities are met. In addition to the support of the numerous partnerships stated above, I too am in full support of the efforts the Hugo Good Neighbor Food Shelf is putting forth in the construction and installation of a refrigerator and freezer bank. I believe this will provide the citizens of Hugo with means for additional food sources. The Hugo City County and I have directed the City staff to aid the Hugo Good Neighbor Food Shelf Board of Directors in completing this Community Development Block Grant application.
