G%
CITY OF HUGO
CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT
TO: Bryan Bear, City Administrator
FROM: Scott Anderson, Public Works Director
SUBJECT: Replacement of 2002 Chevrolet Crane/Sign Truck
DATE: For the City Council Meeting of February 3, 2020
BACKGROUND
Included in the City's 2020 Equipment Purchasing Fund is funding for the replacement
of the Public Works Department 2002 Chevrolet crane/sign truck #107-02. Typically,
the City replaces these types of trucks following a 10 year equipment replacement
schedule. In 2012, Public Works staff recommended keeping truck #107-02 and
continuing to use it, as it was mechanically sound and performing as expected.
Truck #107-02 is an 18 year old 2002 Chevrolet chassis with a utility box and crane
mounted on the frame. This truck is set up to meet many different Public Works
Department needs. The utility box contains the parts and tools necessary to maintain
our street signs during routine and emergency repairs. The crane attachment is also
used during street sign repairs and more importantly, during maintenance activities
related to our sanitary sewer lift stations, such as hoisting lift station pumps for repairs.
The frame and chassis that is being specified by Public Works staff to replace truck
#107-02 is similar to the trucks that the City has purchased over the past few years.
Public Works staff has spent many hours researching the available makes and models
from all manufacturers. Staff contacted many neighboring Public Works Departments to
get their opinions on the performance and reliability of the trucks recently purchased by
them. This was a great advantage when selecting a manufacture and staff is confident
in the decision that was made, especially when considering cost, performance and
reliability.
