CITY OF HUGO CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REPORT TO: Bryan Bear, City Administrator FROM: Mike Loeffler, Public Works Lead Worker SUBJECT: Replacement of Asphalt Roller/Compactor DATE: For the City Council Meeting of February 3, 2020 BACKGROUND In 2006, the City purchased a 1.6 ton capacity Wacker asphalt roller/compactor to assist in the filling of potholes and road patching. This piece of equipment will roll, compact and put the finished surface on asphalt patches. This piece of equipment has been in service for 14 seasons and is nearing the end of its useful life. Staff is looking to replace the roller and is recommending a Caterpillar CB22B, 3 ton roller/compactor. The equipment listed on the quote from Ziegler Cat has been reviewed with Finance Director, Ron Otkin. Public Works staff has worked with the Finance Department and money is included in the 2020 budget to cover this purchase. Public Works staff is seeking Council authorization for the replacement of the existing 2006 roller. If approved by the City Council, this piece of equipment would be purchased using the Sourcewell Cooperative Contract #032119-CAT, which is the equivalent to the Mn/DOT Cooperative Purchasing Venture (CPV) assuring that the City of Hugo will receive the best price available while providing us with the necessary options to choose from. DESIRED ACTION Staff recommends the City Council authorize the purchase of an asphalt roller/compactor as outlined in the quote from Ziegler Cat dated January 15, 2020.
