Agenda Item: I.2 CITY OF HUGO Memorandum TO: Bryan Bear, City Administrator FROM: Rachel Juba, Community Development Director SUBJECT: North Entry Monument Sign DATE: January 30, 2020, for the City Council Meeting of February 3, 2020 1. BACKGROUND: The Beautification Subcommittee has been working on a location and design of a new City of Hugo entry monument sign. The committee has decided to focus on the north entry to the City. There has also been discussion on how to modify the existing entry monument along Frenchman Road/CSAH 8 to incorporate the new City logo, be more legible, and install additional landscaping. At its June 17, 2019, meeting the City Council reviewed the location of the entry monument sign and two options for the design of the sign. The City Council liked both design options, however, asked staff to contact sign companies on the durability and likely maintenance required for each sign. Staff contacted signs companies and received good feedback on the sign design that replicates a smaller version of the existing entry monument sign along Frenchman Road/CSAH 8. Staff has included a rendering of the new entry monument sign. If construction documents are developed, it is likely that there will be modifications to the sign to ensure it coincides with the existing entry monument sign. 2. CONCLUSION/RECOMMENDATION: The Beautification Subcommittee meet on January 8, 2020, and recommended to the City Council that they move forward with the entry monument sign option that replicates a smaller version of the existing monument sign, including modifying the existing sign with new logo and additional landscaping. Staff has a cost estimate that was put together by WSB & Associates for the new sign. Staff does not have estimates for modifications to the existing sign or landscaping. Staff recommends the City Council review the preliminary sign design and provide direction to staff.
