Bear explained that the whole plan <br />design was a process that evolved and was modified. Bear said this was the plan as it stood today. <br />Bernier questioned why the courts and skate park couldn’t be switched. <br /> <br />Weidt asked why he (Bernier) would want to change it. Bernier replied that lots of teenagers come <br />from outside of the City, and the music and skate board noise is a lot to listen to every night. <br /> <br />Bob Shields, 14770 Flay Avenue, asked why not put the skate park on the west side near the <br />cemetery. He said it generates lot of noise, and he wanted to see it moved to another place. He liked <br />the park but asked the Council to take into account the citizens too. <br /> <br />Ron Gerdesmeier, 5558 147th Street, said there will be a lot of noise and said he knew of issues with <br />the existing one. He said there was a minimum number of kids from this area that use the skate park <br />because it is an older area, and there may be a better park to put it in. <br /> <br />Weidt replied that the skate park was one of the most popular features in the park, and the City was <br />looking at ways to deaden the sound on the ramp pieces. He stated that there can be discussions on <br />ways to make it better. <br /> <br />Mary Gerdesmeier, 5558 147th Street, wanted to clarify that discussions were still open about <br />relocating the skate park. Weidt replied that it would be discussed as they finalized the design. <br /> <br />Miron asked about the committees and if their work was ongoing. Bear stated the design <br />committees had finished their work, and Council had authorized construction plans for the park. He <br />said if Council wanted staff to look at something different, it would be helpful to know. <br /> <br />Weidt asked if the Council was interested in moving the skate park saying there would likely be a <br />cost associated with that. <br /> <br />Petryk had questions about park hours and policy. Parks Planner Shayla Denaway responded that <br />parks were open until 11 p.m., but it was posted at the skate park that the skate equipment area was <br />closed at sunset. Petryk asked about securing the area after that time. Denaway responded that it <br />would not be fenced, so it would not be able to be secured at night. <br /> <br />Ron Gerdesmeier said the kids will use it as they like, and there was no way to close it down to <br />anyone; they just want it moved. He also talked about how he like the playground equipment and <br />would like to see it increased. <br /> <br />Bob Shields said by locating the skate park further west, it would be easier to see if you were <br />looking at it from the City Hall building and a lot quieter for the citizens. <br /> <br />Weidt stated he was not hearing a lot of support from Council for redesign of the park, and there <br />were way to work on noise issues. The skate park had been in the park for a number of years, and he <br />had not heard of any complaints from residents near the current location. He estimated the current <br />location was 130 feet away from the homes and the new location would be about 150 feet from the <br />closest house on the corner. He talked about how it could be made friendlier with police activity and <br />by controlling the noise. He said a big part of reason it there and not on the other side was because
