<br />BACKGROUND MEMO FOR THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON APRIL 19, 2021 <br /> <br />D.1 April 5, 2021, City Council Meeting <br />D.2 April 8, 2021, Local Board of Appeals and Equalization Meeting <br />D.3 April 13, 2021, WBL Elementary School Groundbreaking Ceremony <br />D.4 April 14, 2021, Lions Park Workshop <br /> <br />Staff recommends Council approve the above minutes as presented. <br /> <br />F.1 Swearing in of Fire Chief Jim Compton, Jr. <br /> <br />At its October 19, 2020, meeting, Council approved the promotion of Jim Compton, Jr. as the new <br />Hugo Fire Chief effective January, 1, 2021 to replace retiring Fire Chief Kevin Covard. Jim has <br />been with the department since June, 2001. Mayor Tom Weidt will perform the swearing in of <br />Jim Compton, Jr. as Fire Chief. <br /> <br />F.2 Swearing in of Assistant Fire Chief Colin Emans <br /> <br />At its April 5, 2021, meeting, Council approved the promotion of Colin Emans as the Assistant <br />Fire Chief on the Hugo Fire Department. Colin has been with the department since June, 2013. <br />Fire Chief Jim Compton, Jr. will perform the swearing in of Colin Emans as the new Assistant <br />Fire Chief. <br /> <br />F.3 Recognition of Retired Firefighter Ron Gray <br /> <br />At its December 16, 2019, meeting, Council approved the retirement of Ron Gray from the Hugo <br />Fire Department effective February 15, 2020. Ron has served on the fire department for 40 years. <br />Council will recognize Retired Firefighter Ron Gray. <br /> <br />F.4 Good Neighbor Days Event – Lions Club Members Dan Balthazor, Jason Schwieger, <br />and Club President John Kelly <br /> <br />The Hugo Good Neighbor Days Festival will be held Friday, June 11 – Sunday, June 13 at Lions <br />Park. The Hugo Lions Club would like to run the event similar to past years; however, plans may <br />be modified to comply with the Governors orders on COVID. Members of the Lions Club will be <br />in attendance to answer any questions the Council may have and will request the Council co- <br />sponsor the event by waiving the Special Event Permit fee and providing police services for the <br />event, as in the past. Staff recommends Council approve the event with the condition that a <br />COVID Preparedness Plan be prepared prior to the event showing how they will comply with all <br />of the most recent orders from the Governor regarding COVID. <br /> <br />F.5 Washington County Sheriff’s Office Annual Report – Sheriff Dan Starry <br /> <br />Washington County Sheriff Dan Starry will be in attendance to present the Sheriff’s Department <br />annual report. <br /> <br />G.1 Approve Claims Roster <br /> <br />Staff recommends Council approve the Claims Roster as presented. <br />
