<br />Job Description <br />Position Title: Assistant Chief <br />Department: Fire Department <br />Reports to: Fire Chief <br />Pay Grade: Part Time/Paid on-Call <br />Salary: Per City Salary Resolution <br /> <br /> <br />Purpose <br />Perform duties essential to the Fire Department <br /> <br />Organizational Relationships <br />Communicate with: Fire Department Officers, Firefighters, and other city staff <br />Supervises: Directs work of the Captains and other subordinate staff <br />Receives work assignments from: Fire Chief <br /> <br />Essential Duties / Responsibilities <br />The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or <br />all inclusive; other duties may be required or assigned. <br /> <br />Essential Functions <br />• Perform all essential functions of a Fighter’s position. <br />• Supervise and provide direction to the Captains. <br />• Oversee the hiring practices for the department. <br />• Oversee building operations and maintenance. <br />• Assist the Fire Chief in the development, planning and implementation of the goals and <br />objectives of the department. <br />• Direct and oversee multi-company response to an emergency event. <br />• Serve as the incident commander at emergency scenes as needed. <br />• Work within the given budget. <br />• May assume full responsibility for the Fire Department in the absence of the Fire Chief <br />and Deputy Chief. <br />• Recommend changes in policies and procedures. <br />• Maintain updated CIP for the fire station and building equipment. <br />• Act as member of the Hiring Committee. <br /> <br />Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities <br />• All knowledge, skills, and abilities listed under positions that report directly to this <br />position. <br />• Ability to assist the Fire Chief in planning, directing, managing/overseeing the activities <br />and operations of the Fire Department. <br />• Ability to manage and supervise the activities of one or more assigned functions, which <br />may include all personnel issues and building equipment. <br />• Ability to direct the work of the Training Captain and other subordinate staff. <br />• Ability to participate in the development of departmental goals and objectives. <br />• Assists in the formulation of policies and procedures. <br /> <br />Education and /or Certifications Desired <br />• All educational and/or certifications listed under positions that report directly to this <br />position. <br />• Attend any classes needed for the position as approved by the Fire Chief. <br /> <br />Annual Requirements <br /> Meet all annual requirement of the Firefighter’s position.
