Beaver Ponds Parknow has a new
(to the neighborhood) playground!
The two year old playground equipment formerly located in Lions Park was re -installed
in Beaver Ponds Park this June. The Parks Commission uses a Capital Improvement Plan
to outline their anticipated projects five years out. This includes replacing play equip-
ment and other significant improvements to neighborhood parks when needed.
The twenty year old playground in Beaver Ponds Park was showing its age. When
construction of Lions Park was anticipated, the City was hopeful that the existing
equipment could be relocated and be of use for several more years.
The playground offers tall slides, climbing features, spinners, and
other fun activities for ages 2-12. The landscaping, benches, and hardscapes
were also improved in Beaver Ponds Park. It is a popular park on 15 acres that offers a
soccer field, open field space, off-street parking and a picnic shelter in addition to the
new playground.
BEFORE
STURMVVATEF
E.,.U.SE
{
im
With a committed effort to reduce, reuse,
and replenish its water resources, the City
of Hugo has partnered with Washington
County, the Rice Creek Watershed District,
and various developers to construct storm -
water reuse ponds for irrigation purposes over
the past several years. Irrigation of turf grass
accounts for one-third of the water used to
run a typical home.
These stormwater reuse systems
collect and reuse stormwater, rath-
er than drinking water, to irrigate the
turf grass within the areas that they service.
Due to the use of these systems, Hugo
saves over 30 million gallons of
drinking water annually from being
AFTER
Walking Club
Memory Cafe'
Third w.an.:aav of
each month
1:30 pm —3:00 pm
HanifI Fields Gathering Room
7032 137th Street North
Memory Cafes are a welcoming
place for those with memory
loss and their caregivers to come
together, socialize, and connect
with each month.
pulled from City wells. Not only does this
method conserve valuable drinking water,
but it also benefits the ground in which it
irrigates. These systems help improve surface
water quality through phosphorous reduction
and decreased groundwater demand.
The Hugo City Council has identified
the goal of becoming a leader in region-
al activities related to water resource
management and strives for city-wide
self-reliance on water. The City of Hugo
continues to seek ways to meet these goals
and thanks the residents of Hugo for partici-
pating in water conservation practices at their
homes.
3❑
