PUBLIC WORKS MECHANIC <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Position Title: Public Works Mechanic <br />Department: Public Works <br />Immediate Supervisor’s Title: Public Works Director <br />Pay Grade: 5 <br /> <br />1 <br /> <br />PURPOSE <br />The mechanic is responsible for performing necessary maintenance and repairs to all City owned <br />vehicles, trucks, light & heavy equipment, small engines and fire emergency vehicles. Also, <br />assists with a variety of non-supervisory skilled, semi-skilled and manual work in the routine <br />maintenance of municipal streets and storm sewers, water and wastewater collection systems, <br />and City buildings, parks and other grounds. Operates a variety of equipment to plow and <br />remove snow, sand streets, and perform other maintenance and repair work. <br /> <br />ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS <br />Reports to: Public Works Director <br />Takes additional direction from: Public Works Lead Worker <br />Communicates with: Internally - Other Public Works employees, City administrative staff; Fire <br />Department staff. <br />Externally - Contractors, suppliers, and the general public. <br />Supervises: None. <br />Provides some work direction to: Part-time and seasonal employees. <br /> <br />ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS <br />Diagnoses and performs necessary repairs to vehicles and motorized equipment. <br />Performs preventative and routine maintenance on all City vehicles. <br />Performs mechanical repairs on all vehicle systems, including but not limited to: electrical, <br />hydraulic, transmission, differential, air conditioning, heating, fuel and mechanical systems. <br />Coordinates vehicle and equipment recall notices. <br />Designs and implements modifications to existing equipment, as directed. <br />Keeps work area clean, organized, safe working condition and secures parts storage areas. <br />Maintains maintenance and repair records on all City owned vehicles and equipment. <br />Performs building and grounds maintenance. <br />Performs other Public Works functions, including but not limited to: repair and maintenance of <br />City water system, sanitary/storm sewer systems, parks, roads and snowplowing. <br />Responds to emergency callouts and available for on-call duties. <br />Orders and maintains all in-stock parts and supplies as related to the vehicle and equipment <br />maintenance. <br />Manages fleet and fuel tracking systems and software. <br />Assists with all large deliveries to the Public Works facility. <br />Performs all necessary DOT inspections. <br /> <br />OTHER DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
