UPDATES FROM FIRE CHIEF Jim Compton Jr.
jrcompton@ci.hugo.mn.us
We are excited to welcome five
new firefighters to Hugo!
From left to right they are: Brandon Rashchick, Darek Albertson,
Steve Albertson , Allysa Nadeau, and Cameron Barukzoy. The
City has not hired new firefighters in over 2.5 years, so we are
looking forward to the new faces on the team.
Brandon Raschick comes to the Hugo Fire Department with prior
experience on the White Bear Lake Fire Department. The other
four newcomers are all currently taking their required Firefighter
1 and 2 training through Century College.
We ask the Hugo community to help us welcome our new fire-
fighters to the Hugo Fire Family and wish them many years
of service!
SMOKE/CO DETECTORS
Please be mindful to change your smoke and carbon monoxide
detector batteries. A good way to remember this is to check your
expiration dates and batteries every time you change your clocks
for daylight savings! Please remember that detectors have a shelf
life of eight to ten years and NEED to be replaced.
LOCAL BOARD OF APPEAL AND
EQUALIZATION MEETING
IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING PROPERTY ASSESSMENTS
THIS MAY AFFECT YOUR 2023 PROPERTY TAXES
Members of the Hugo City Council act as the Local
Board of Appeal and Equalization (LBAE). The LBAE
has statutory responsibility to review estimated
market values and property classifications in the
City. The board hears appeals from property owners
regarding the assessor’s estimated market value or
classification of their property and will either adjust
the valuation or classification, or uphold the assess-
ment as sent out in the property valuation notice.
The Local Board of Appeal and Equalization for
the City of Hugo will meet on Thursday, April 7,
2022 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. at Hugo City Hall.
If you believe the value or classification of your
property is incorrect, please first contact the
Washington County Assessor’s Office at 651-430-
6175 to discuss your concerns. If you disagree with
the valuation or classification after discussing it with
the assessor, you may appear before the LBAE. The
board will review your assessments and may make
corrections as needed. Generally, you must appeal to
the Local Board before appealing to the County Board
of Appeal and Equalization.
Please contact City Clerk Michele Lindau
at 651-762-6315 with any questions
regarding the Local Board of
Appeal and Equalization
process.
11
