2023
Environmental Update
Environmental Center and Yard Waste Site
Coming to Forest Lake
Scan for updates on the new environmental center.
WashCoRecycles.com/EnviroCenter
Residents in the northern part of Washington County will soon have a more convenient option for the disposal of household
hazardous waste, electronics, and more! Construction of a second environmental center is planned near Highway 61 and
Headwaters Parkway in Forest Lake. Groundbreaking is scheduled for September 2023 with an anticipated opening date in
late 2024.
The new environmental center will provide more equitable
disposal options for residents in Forest Lake, Hugo, Marine
on St. Croix, May Township, Scandia, and other locations
in the northern portion of the County, who will no longer
need to travel as far to responsibly dispose of household
chemicals, fluorescent light bulbs, electronics, used oil,
batteries, and other items that don’t belong in the trash. Self-
serve recycling of cardboard, scrap metal, mixed recycling,
and food scraps will also be offered at
the new site.
To help minimize the number of stops residents make for proper disposal, the
Washington County Northern Yard Waste site, currently located in Hugo, will be
relocated right next to the new environmental center in Forest Lake. The site will
continue to accept leaves, grass clippings, brush, tree waste, and other plant material.
Once open, all county residents will be within 25 minutes from an environmental center.
