Project: Soffit and Fascia Repair <br />Host: Hopkins Schoolhouse and Heritage Center <br />Site: Hopkins Schoolhouse, Hugo, MN <br />Hitch 10: September 19-27, 2023 <br />ABOUT THE SITE <br />Hugo was initially settled as a refueling station for the Lake Superior and Mississippi <br />Railroad, which later became the Northern Pacific.The town was initially named Oneka <br />Township but late became known as Hugo, possibly named after French author Victor <br />Hugo by the French Canadian inhabitants of the town, of which there were many. <br />Hopkins Schoolhouse was built in1928 and served the community until 1962, when it <br />was closed down.The building served as Oneka’s town hall until the region became <br />incorporated as the city of Hugo in 1972. It then served as a youth center an meeting <br />place for the Hugo Boy Scouts unti it was abandoned in the early 2000s. <br />HITCH SUMMARY <br />Corpsmembers Fixed the soffits that had fallen down and replaced nearly an entire side <br />of soffits and fascia on the west facing side of the building. The Crew then proceeded to <br />put primer on the soffits but were unable to prime the fascia due to rain. The crew did <br />not have enough time to start painting. <br />QUANTITATIVE MEASUREMENTS <br />658 square feet of soffit and fascia replaced <br />1316 square feet primed <br />Page 86 of 89
