Proposed Project 2 of 2: New Building Project
We propose to construct a separate two-story building of approximately 30,000-40,000 square feet. The
new building will allow Xcel Energy to relocate training activities that presently occur at our Minneapolis
Riverside Training Center(RTC);establish advanced training laboratories and classrooms dedicated to Gas,
Industrial Unmanned Inspection, centralized Safety, OSHA, Environmental and public training offerings.
The new building will allow us to centralize a significant portion of Xcel Energy's Technical Training
operations as well as create operating efficiencies and improve the sharing of resources across our
training programs, and the Hugo community. The project includes construction of virtual training
classrooms and equips Xcel for operations in newly emerging technologies essential for carbon
reduction, and the shift to green energy. If the site plan as shown with the specified parking facilities is
permitted,Xcel will also utilize this facility for centralized Nuclear Contract Employee in processing prior
to outage operations which occur across the state of Minnesota.
Expected steady state employee use:
• 3,000 employees with concentration in the Spring and Fall
• 65-150 per day during off peak times.
If Centralized Nuclear In-Processing remains viable:
• 1,500 per year
• 300 per day during peak times
Estimated Schedule (Project 2 of 2):
Design & Permitting: Summer-Fall 2023
Construction: 2024-2026
