Architecture and <br />Construction Cluster <br />Ninety-two and a half percent of talent working in Architecture and Construction roles in <br />Washington County are White, and the same percentage are male. With such low overall racial <br />and gender diversity, and an older-than-average workforce, this is a career cluster ripe for <br />interventions to bring more diverse young people into this highly-skilled high-wage pathway. <br />Key Findings <br />•Four local programs exist at Century College aligned to this pathway, preparing students for <br />careers in HVAC maintenance, property maintenance, and renewable energy. However, there <br />are many other in-demand careers that do not have local post-high school programming <br />•Carpenters, Electricians, and Construction Managers are all experiencing local talent <br />shortages and award gaps in Washington County <br />•There are double the share of Hispanic and Latinx workers in Architecture and Construction <br />careers than observed in Washington County’s workforce overall (8.9% compared to 4.1% <br />overall), with the highest overrepresentation of Hispanic and Latinx talent as Painters, <br />Landscapers,and Construction Laborers <br />26 Washington County <br />Labor Supply Study <br />March 2023 <br />Architecture and Construction Talent <br />Demographics by Race
