Page 2 of 2 <br />Parks Commission Agenda <br />February 16, 2022 <br /> <br />Background <br />Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission <br />Meeting of February 16, 2022 <br />Hugo City Hall, 7:00 pm <br /> <br />Approve Minutes from January 19, 2022 Meeting <br />Staff recommends approval of the minutes of the Parks Commission meeting of January 19, 2022. <br />PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED MINUTES. <br /> <br />Val Jean Park Grading <br />At the meeting of September 15, 2021, Kris Birch presented a proposal for the city to grade Val Jean Park to <br />allow for a neighborhood ice skating rink. At the meeting of October 13, 2021, the Parks Commission <br />discussed the proposal and authorized WSB to survey the park to help inform where to best locate a rink in <br />winter 2021/2022. The Commission agreed to continue the discussion at their CIP and goal settings. At the <br />goal setting of January 19, 2022, the Commission included “evaluate grading at Val Jean Park for <br />neighborhood ice rink” in their 2022 goals. $40,000 is allocated in the CIP for “neighborhood park <br />improvements” in 2022. Birch and neighbors were at the goal setting. Staff will present a project timeline <br />for the Commission to consider the project in 2022. <br /> <br />Bernin Property History <br />Staff will present the history of the Bernin property which is located at 6540 Greene Avenue North. The 22 <br />acre property includes 1,600’ of shoreline on Oneka Lake. It is also adjacent to Oneka Lake Park which has a <br />playground and park shelter.
