Page 2 of 2 <br />Parks Commission Agenda <br />April 19, 2023 <br /> <br />Background <br />Parks, Recreation, and Open Space Commission <br />Meeting of April 19, 2023 <br />Hugo City Hall, 7:00 pm <br /> <br />Approve Minutes from February 15 and March 15, 2023 Meetings <br />Staff recommends approval of the minutes of the Parks Commission meetings of February 15 and March 15, <br />2023. <br />PLEASE SEE THE ATTACHED MINUTES. <br /> <br />Introduction to Parks Lead Worker <br />The City Council, at their February 6, 2023 meeting, approved a job description for a Public Works Parks Lead <br />Worker and gave authorization to hold interviews and select an internal candidate to fill the position. AT the <br />Council meeting of April 3, the Council approved Rick Kieffer as the Parks Lead Worker. Staff will introduce <br />Kieffer. <br />THE PUBLIC WORKS ORGANIZATIONAL CHART IS ATTACHED. <br /> <br />Neighborhood Park Improvement Plan <br />The Parks Commission approved $90,000 for Neighborhood Park Upgrades in their Capital Improvement Plan. <br />Annually, staff evaluates the City’s Parks and proposes needed improvements. This year, staff is <br />recommending that the exterior of the shelter at Hanifl Fields Athletic Park be painted and stained at a cost <br />of $14,000. Staff is recommending that the remaining funds be allocated to concrete repairs at Victor Square <br />Park. Staff will present a plan for neighborhood park improvements for discussion. <br />AN ESTIMATE FROM W.R. BAXLEY IS ATTACHED. <br /> <br />Updates on ongoing projects <br />Updates on multiple ongoing projects will be provided. Staff has continued research on pylon park signs and <br />potential vendors for the Park Sign Replacement Plan. WSB and Associates are working on the Bernin Park <br />master plan rendering. A draft prospectus has been prepared for TEP review for the North Star Wetland <br />Bank. Staff has been approached by the Commander of the Hugo American Legion regarding a memorial in <br />Lions Volunteer Park.
