<br /> <br />Job Description <br /> <br />Position Title: Assistant Chief <br />Department: Fire Department <br />Reports to: Fire Chief <br />Pay Grade: Part Time/Paid On-Call <br />Salary: Per City Salary Resolution <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Purpose <br />Perform duties essential to the Fire Department. <br /> <br />Organizational Relationships <br />Communicates with: Fire department personnel and other city staff <br />Supervises: Captains and other subordinate staff <br />Receives work assignments from: Fire Chief <br /> <br />Essential Duties / Responsibilities <br />The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed <br />as exclusive or all inclusive; other duties may be required or assigned. <br /> <br />Essential Functions <br />• Performs all essential and other functions of a Captain position. <br />• Directs and oversees multi-company response to an emergency event. <br />• Supervises and provides day to day oversight for Training Captain. <br />• Acts as the incident commander at emergency scenes as needed. <br />• Acts as a representative of the department at community events. <br />• Provides a positive attitude in the performance of duties. <br />Other Functions <br />• Recommends changes and assists in the formulation of policies, procedures and <br />SOG’s. <br />• Assists the Fire Chief in the development, planning, and implementation of the <br />goals and objectives of the department. <br />• Oversees the hiring practices for the department. <br />• Acts as a member of the department’s hiring committee. <br />• Work within the given budget. <br />• Assumes full responsibility of the department in the absence of the Fire Chief and <br />Deputy Chief when necessary. <br />Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities <br />• All knowledge, skills, and abilities of the Captain position. <br />• Ability to assist the Fire Chief in planning, directing, managing/overseeing the <br />activities and operations of the department. <br />• Ability to manage and supervise the activities of one or more assigned functions, <br />which may include training, personnel issues, and annual attendance. <br />• Ability to direct the work of the Training Captain and other subordinate staff. <br />• Ability to participate in the development of departmental goals and objectives. <br />
