<br /> <br />Job Description <br /> <br />Position Title: Firefighter/Fire Marshal <br />Department: Fire Department <br />Reports to: Fire Chief <br />Pay Grade: Part Time/Paid On-Call <br />Salary: Per City Salary Resolution <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Purpose <br />Perform duties essential to the Fire Department related to fire inspection and <br />prevention. <br /> <br />Organizational Relationships <br />Communicate with: Fire department personnel and other city staff. <br />Supervises: None <br />Receives work assignments from: Fire Chief <br /> <br />Essential Duties / Responsibilities <br />The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed <br />as exclusive or all inclusive; other duties may be required or assigned. <br /> <br />Essential Functions <br /> Performs all essential and other functions of a Firefighter position. <br /> Participates in the inspection of sprinkling systems and elements of fire <br />prevention or protection systems to ensure fire code requirements are met. <br /> Encourages and conducts voluntary fire prevention inspections of non- <br />residential buildings within the city. <br /> Prepares and maintains correspondence, records, and reports relating to fire <br />prevention inspections. <br /> Coordinates and oversees the delivery of and participates in public fire <br />prevention education programs. <br /> Works to ensure safe handling of hazardous materials in the City of Hugo <br /> Issues burning permits, inspects burn piles, and notifies Washington County <br />Dispatch of permits issued. <br /> Communicates with the Building Department and participates in review of <br />commercial construction plans for fire code compliance and resolves <br />compliance problems with contractors and architects within scope of <br />knowledge and the authority having jurisdiction. <br /> Participates in site plan review with other City of Hugo staff. <br /> Collaborates with the Building Official in assigning addresses for new <br />developments. <br /> Responds to complaints from citizens as it pertains to fire safety and works to <br />resolve compliance problems with owners within scope of knowledge and <br />authority. <br /> Researches code issues and provides the public with fire prevention and <br />safety information. <br /> Maintains up-to-date working knowledge of current fire code requirements, <br />regulations, and certifications through continuing education. <br /> Acts as a representative of the Fire Department at community events. <br />
