<br />KIRKWOOD FAMILY, 9940 JUSTEN TRAIL N, MAHTOMEDI, MN 55115 <br />T (651) 315-5040 <br />Mahtomedi Youth Hockey Association <br />June 17, 2024 <br />Hugo City Hall <br />14669 Fitzgerald Ave N <br />Hugo, MN 55038 <br />Shayla Denaway, City of Hugo & The Hugo Parks Commission: <br />The Mahtomedi Hockey Association and the 2023/24 Mahtomedi Junior Gold 16 team <br />would like to donate a memorial to their team mate, Samson Walters who died <br />December 2, 2023 following a tragic accident on his drive to school. <br />Samson Walters had just started his second season on <br />the Mahtomedi Junior Gold 16 team along with 4 <br />other returning players and 14 new team members. <br />He brought so much energy to the team with his <br />contagious smile, his music selections and <br />accompanying dance moves always on display. <br />Samson was greatly missed on the ice this season, but <br />was never forgotten. On the day of his passing, the <br />team had their first game, celebrating his memory <br />with patches donated by the Cottage Grove JG16 <br />team, a 9 stick solute at center ice, and played the first shift with just the 4 <br />returning team members, leaving a spot for Samson. They <br />carried his jersey through every handshake line, displayed <br />his jersey on the bench, and ended every single game this <br />year with a huddle at center ice to say a prayer to Samson, <br />sometimes with the help of the opposing team. The team <br />finished the season with 18 wins – 1 loss – 5 ties, 2 first <br />place and a 3rd place tournament finish, and ultimately won <br />the MN State Championship. In April, the MN Wild
