Proclamation <br /> <br />City of Hugo <br /> <br />Honoring Jerome "Jerry" Saunders for his Exemplary <br />Military Service and Celebrating His 100th Birthday <br />WHEREAS, the City of Hugo profoundly appreciates the sacrifices made by our <br />veterans in defending the freedoms we cherish, and believes in recognizing them for their <br />bravery, service, and commitment to our nation; and <br />WHEREAS, Jerome "Jerry" Saunders was born on September 28, 1924, in St. <br />Paul, Minnesota, where he grew up and spent much of his life contributing to the <br />community; and <br />WHEREAS, Jerry valiantly served as a seaman during World War II, where he <br />was stationed in England for six months to prepare for the D-Day invasion of France, <br />playing a vital role in driving a landing ship tank (LST) during the historic landings on <br />Normandy Beach; and <br />WHEREAS, after his military service, Jerry married his beloved wife, Marilyn, <br />and together they raised three children—Dean, Steve, and Debra—while living on St. <br />Paul's West Side; and <br />WHEREAS, Jerry worked diligently for 35 years as a wholesale milk driver for <br />the Minnesota Milk Company, demonstrating his strong work ethic and commitment to <br />providing for his family and community; and <br />WHEREAS, communities are enriched by the presence of individuals like Jerry <br />Saunders, who embody our living history and have contributed so much to our society, <br />making the celebration of his 100th birthday an extraordinary and joyous occasion; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the Hugo City Council, on behalf of the citizens of Hugo, <br />do hereby honor and thank Jerome "Jerry" Saunders for his distinguished military service <br />and lifetime contributions, and extend heartfelt congratulations to him on this momentous <br />occasion of his 100th birthday. <br />In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of the City of <br />Hugo to be affixed this 16th day of September 2024. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Tom Weidt, Mayor <br />
