From:Shayla Denaway
To:Michele Lindau; Bryan Bear
Subject:FW: Hugo Commissioner Position
Date:Thursday, January 22, 2026 11:51:13 AM

From: Neil Arcand
Sent: Monday, January 12, 2026 8:58 AM
To: Shayla Denaway <SDenaway@ci.hugo.mn.us>
Subject: Hugo Commissioner Position

Hi Shayla,

I hope you had a nice Christmas and New Year.

I’m writing because I have made the difficult decision to step away from my role as a
Commissioner on the Parks Commission. When I joined as an EDA Commissioner 5
years ago I was in a very different point in life with a lot more free time for community
activities.

Kids activities continue to increase in frequency and intensity as my kids get older, and I
help with coaching in several sports - which is quickly becoming a year round
commitment 3-4+ nights a week. That coupled with some changes at work continue to
eat up what little free time I have.
After missing a number of meetings this year it became apparent that I no longer feel I
can give the Parks Commission the time and attention it deserves, and I will
unfortunately need to step away.
This was not an easy decision, as I’ve truly valued the opportunity to serve the
community and work alongside such a dedicated group of commissioners and staff. I’m
grateful for the experience and would love for the chance to step back into a role down
the road when time allows.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Neil Arcand
